Subsequently Pendleton is making a 80 / 20 blend of Alpaca and wool, because the Alpaca fiber is so fine that it is hard to work with. But these blankets/ throws are much harder to find and more sought after due to their fineness.

The sure-footed Alpaca originated in the Andes, where it grazes gently, without damaging root systems. Its fine, lustrous fleece evolved to meet the challenge of high mountains and cold temperatures. The result is a soft, sustainable luxury fiber that's warmer than lambswool. Durable, lightweight and hypoallergenic alpaca fiber will keep its strength and luster for generations.

These were made in conjunction with the Alpaca Blanket project. About the Alpaca Blanket Project Started in 2005, the alpaca blanket project was the dream of Peter and Carol Lundberg of the Pacific Northwest to produce an affordable, attractive and absolutely excellent quality product using alpaca fiber grown by Mom-n-Pop farms right here in the USA. Many many alpaca farms joined into this worthy goal.
